Is your child showing signs of wanting to get ready for school? Are they spending longer amounts of time focusing on what they are doing? Are they inquiring a lot more?
For some children this starts at 3, or 4 or some not even when they begin school and that is ok! This section is for those children that want to start getting into some more parent led activities for learning, but in a fun way. I do not believe in forcing a child to sit down and learn, I believe they will do this when they are ready and the last thing you want to do is put your child off learning before they even begin school. So I cannot stress this enough that this is for those children who are interested!
Throughout this section I will add activities that I have worked through with my children and also with my friend’s children as in the past I have run small getting ready for school sessions with children that are keen from about 4.5 years old.
There are so many ways to get your child ready for school, the most important is just talking about starting school, visiting the playground and talking about what happens at school.
Reading to your child is something you can do from age 0! It’s so important and can foster a love of reading in the future. Both my sons love reading time before bed especially if their dad reads to them as its special time for them together since he works further away and leaves before they wake in the mornings.
Counting is a fun and easy way to learn their numbers. Go shopping and let them help you count the fruit, or play hide and seek!
There are so many great ideas out there that are free to do at home with your kids, so bring your enthusiastic attitude and lets explore some of them!
